چکیده

Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are released, as neutrophils die in vitro, in a process requiring hours, leaving a temporal gap for invasive microbes to exploit. Functional neutrophils undergoing NETosis have not been documented. During Gram-positive skin infections, we directly visualized live PMN in vivo rapidly releasing NETs, which prevented bacterial Users may view, print, copy, and download text and data-mine the content in such documents, for the purposes of academic research, subject always to the full Conditions of use:http://www.nature.com/authors/editorial_policies/license.html#terms Corresponding author: Dr. Paul Kubes. Severe Gram-Negative Intertrigo of the Feet

Introduction: Intertrigo is a common disease of the skin usually caused by fungi and/or bacteria, often involving major or minor skin folds. Here, we report a case of severe, ulcerative intertrigo of all interdigital folds of both feet caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa in a patient with type II diabetes who acquired the infection during a trip to Senegal. Case Pres...

Neutrophil Extracellular Traps of Cynoglossus semilaevis: Production Characteristics and Antibacterial Effect

Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are structures released by neutrophils as a cellular immune defense against microbial invasion. The process of NETs generation, netosis (NETosis), can take place via either a suicidal mechanism, during which the NETs-releasing cells became dead, or a "live" mechanism, during which the NETs-releasing cells remain vital. NETosis has been studied intensively i...

Neutrophil biology: an update

Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are involved in bacterial killing as well as autoimmunity, because NETs contain proteases, bactericidal peptides, DNA and ribonucleoprotein. NETs are formed via a novel type of cell death called NETosis. NETosis is distinct from apoptosis, but it resembles necrosis in that both membranes are not intact so that they allow intracellular proteins to leak outsi...

A serpinB1 regulatory mechanism is essential for restricting neutrophil extracellular trap generation.

NETosis (neutrophil extracellular trap [NET] generation), a programmed death pathway initiated in mature neutrophils by pathogens and inflammatory mediators, can be a protective process that sequesters microbes and prevents spread of infection, but it can also be a pathological process that causes inflammation and serious tissue injury. Little is known about the regulatory mechanism. Previously...

Direct endoscopic lavage and biopsy sampling and evaluation of uterine microflora in various stages of the canine estrous cycle

The microbial population of the uterus fluctuates during the estrous cycle. Microflora of uterus may affect the establishment and maintenance of pregnancy in bitches. The endoscopic samples obtained from the vagina and uterus of 20 female adult mixed‑breed dogs. The uterine lavage samples were prepared for cytology, bacterial (aerobic and anaerobic) and fungal cultures. Uterine tissue samples w...
